Japan’s Largest Banks Set to Access Anthropic’s Mythos AI
Japan’s three largest banks are expected to gain access to Claude Mythos, the advanced artificial intelligence model developed by U.S.-based startup Anthropic, as early as the end of May, according to a report published by Nikkei on Wednesday.
Major Japanese Banks Included in the Initiative
The report stated that MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp, and Mizuho Bank were likely informed about the development by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during meetings held in Japan on Tuesday.
First Access for Japanese Organizations
Nikkei noted that this would mark the first time Japanese organizations have been granted access to Mythos, a high-level AI model designed to identify and exploit software security vulnerabilities significantly faster than previous systems.
Access to the model has reportedly been limited to around 50 organizations worldwide, including U.S. companies, American financial institutions, and British government agencies.
Japan Expands Cybersecurity Efforts
According to the report, the Japanese government has been pushing Washington for access to the AI system as the country intensifies its cybersecurity strategy amid rising concerns surrounding advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi reportedly instructed cabinet ministers to strengthen efforts aimed at detecting infrastructure vulnerabilities and reducing AI-related security threats.
Nikkei added that access to the Mythos AI model was likely discussed during Takaichi’s meeting with Bessent earlier this week.
