Bitcoin price climbed to $83,300 on Tuesday as strong US corporate earnings lifted Wall Street and improved investor sentiment. However, the cryptocurrency later retreated toward $82,000 after encountering resistance at a key technical level.
Bitcoin (BTC) gained as much as 1.5%, supported by a broader stock market recovery and better-than-expected third-quarter earnings. Meanwhile, oil prices reversed sharply after briefly exceeding $101 per barrel.
Bitcoin Price Rises as Strong Q3 Earnings Boost US Stocks
According to TradingView data, BTC/USD reached its highest level since October 14 before losing momentum and pulling back toward $82,000.
The cryptocurrency market followed US equities higher as encouraging Q3 earnings helped restore confidence among investors.
General Motors and industrial giant 3M both reported earnings that exceeded market expectations. Additionally, 3M raised its profit outlook, providing further support for the stock market rally.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 1.2%, reaching levels not seen since September 14. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 gained 0.6%, while the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite increased 0.5%.
These gains helped offset concerns about rising energy prices, which had initially pressured market sentiment.
Oil Prices Drop Sharply After Surging Above $100
Oil markets experienced significant volatility during Tuesday’s trading session.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude briefly exceeded $100 per barrel for the first time since September 17. Prices climbed above $101 before reversing sharply as US stock markets opened.
Within hours, WTI dropped nearly 5%, falling below $96 per barrel.
The decline in oil prices coincided with stronger equities and improving investor confidence.
Jose Torres, senior economist at Interactive Brokers, had already highlighted signs of recovering market sentiment on Monday.
According to Torres, investors appeared increasingly comfortable with the outlook for technology companies following the previous week’s sharp sell-off. As confidence improved, market participants began reducing protective positions established during Friday’s volatility spike.
Attention now turns to additional corporate earnings announcements, including upcoming quarterly results from Tesla and Meta on Wednesday.
Bitcoin Faces Resistance at the 21-Day Moving Average
Despite the initial rally, Bitcoin struggled to maintain its upward momentum after approaching an important technical resistance level.
CoinGlass data showed that BTC moved through a concentration of sell orders as it advanced toward $83,000.
The sudden price increase also triggered approximately $125 million in cryptocurrency short liquidations between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Eastern Time.
Meanwhile, total cryptocurrency futures open interest increased roughly 2.1% over 24 hours, reaching $53.86 billion. This marked its highest level since October 8.
The increase suggested growing activity in leveraged cryptocurrency positions as traders responded to improving market conditions.
Key Bitcoin Support and Resistance Levels to Watch
Keith Alan, cofounder of cryptocurrency trading platform Material Indicators, identified the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) near $81,570 as an important support level.
Alan explained that buyers had repeatedly defended this area, suggesting that demand remained active around the longer-term moving average.
However, Bitcoin faced immediate resistance around the 21-day SMA at $83,230.
This technical barrier prevented BTC from sustaining its advance above $83,000 and contributed to the subsequent pullback.
Consequently, traders are watching two important price levels:
- $83,230: Immediate resistance around the 21-day SMA. A sustained breakout could strengthen bullish momentum.
- $81,570: Key support near the 50-day SMA. Holding this level could indicate continued buying interest.
For now, Bitcoin’s short-term direction remains closely linked to broader financial market sentiment, corporate earnings developments and movements in oil prices.
A decisive move above the 21-day moving average could improve the technical outlook. Conversely, a break below the 50-day moving average could signal renewed selling pressure.
