European Stocks Rise as ASML’s AI Outlook Fuels Tech Gains

European stocks moved higher on Wednesday, recovering from the previous session’s modest losses as strong financial results and an optimistic growth outlook from ASML supported technology shares.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index advanced 0.32% to 636.99 points by 07:13 GMT. The increase followed Tuesday’s retreat from a one-week high, as investors assessed corporate earnings and developments across global financial markets.

Technology stocks led the recovery, benefiting from growing optimism surrounding artificial intelligence and semiconductor equipment demand.

ASML Shares Rise as AI Demand Boosts European Tech Stocks

Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML gained 1.8% after reporting strong results and raising its full-year sales forecast.

The world’s largest supplier of chipmaking equipment highlighted exceptionally strong demand for its advanced semiconductor manufacturing systems, driven primarily by expanding artificial intelligence investments.

ASML warned that its existing production plans may not be sufficient to meet customer demand in 2027 and 2028.

Consequently, the company is exploring opportunities to increase manufacturing capacity and address the anticipated supply shortfall.

The encouraging outlook provided a boost to European technology shares, with the sector climbing 0.8% and outperforming other industries.

The developments reinforced expectations that substantial investment in AI infrastructure could continue supporting semiconductor equipment manufacturers in the coming years.

Rising Oil Prices and Orsted Shares Weigh on Sentiment

Despite gains in European stocks, rising geopolitical tensions and higher energy prices limited broader market optimism.

Oil prices increased following reports that two commercial vessels were struck in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

The strategically important waterway remains a key route for international crude oil shipments, making security developments particularly relevant to energy markets.

Meanwhile, Danish renewable energy company Orsted saw its shares decline 4.2%.

The drop followed a Bloomberg News report indicating that US authorities planned to reassess the permit for the company’s offshore wind farm project in Rhode Island.

The potential regulatory review introduced additional uncertainty surrounding the development and weighed on investor sentiment toward the company.

US CPI Inflation Data and Fed Interest Rates in Focus

Investors are also preparing for the release of the latest US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report later on Wednesday.

The inflation figures could provide important clues about the Federal Reserve’s future monetary policy decisions and the outlook for US interest rates.

A stronger-than-expected inflation reading could increase expectations of further monetary tightening, potentially putting pressure on global equity markets.

Conversely, softer inflation data could ease concerns about additional interest rate increases and support investor confidence.

For now, European stocks are benefiting from renewed strength in the technology sector, although geopolitical uncertainty and upcoming US inflation data remain important factors influencing market direction.
