Corning Stock Soars After Major NVIDIA AI Infrastructure Partnership
Shares of Corning Incorporated surged 14% on Wednesday after the company announced a long-term partnership with NVIDIA aimed at expanding U.S. production of optical connectivity solutions for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Corning Expands U.S. Manufacturing Capacity
As part of the multiyear agreement, Corning plans to increase its U.S.-based optical connectivity manufacturing capacity by ten times while also boosting fiber production capacity by more than 50%.
The expansion project will include the construction of three new manufacturing facilities across North Carolina and Texas. According to the company, the initiative is expected to create more than 3,000 new jobs in the United States.
AI Data Center Demand Continues to Accelerate
The additional manufacturing capacity will support hyperscale data centers using NVIDIA-powered accelerated computing systems. As AI workloads become more complex, companies increasingly rely on thousands of NVIDIA GPUs, significantly increasing demand for high-performance optical fiber and advanced connectivity solutions capable of transferring massive amounts of data efficiently.
Corning will provide the optical connectivity infrastructure needed to support the rapid growth of AI data centers worldwide. The company is widely recognized as the inventor of low-loss optical fiber and remains a leader in glass science and optical physics technologies.
Jensen Huang Highlights AI Infrastructure Opportunity
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang described artificial intelligence as one of the biggest infrastructure opportunities in modern history.
According to Huang, AI is creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen American manufacturing and supply chains. He added that the collaboration between NVIDIA and Corning will help develop next-generation optical technologies designed to power future AI computing infrastructure at unprecedented speeds.
Corning Says AI Growth Is Also a Manufacturing Story
Corning Chairman and CEO Wendell P. Weeks stated that the partnership demonstrates how the AI revolution is not only transforming technology but also revitalizing manufacturing in the United States.
Weeks emphasized that Corning intends to ensure critical technologies supporting the AI industry are invented, engineered, and manufactured domestically.
Corning Issues $500 Million in NVIDIA Warrants
As part of the long-term strategic agreement, Corning also issued $500 million in warrants to NVIDIA, further strengthening the partnership between the two companies.
