Philips reported stronger third-quarter earnings on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, as rising customer orders, improved profit margins, and cost-saving initiatives supported its financial performance.
The Dutch healthcare technology company recorded higher adjusted operating earnings and steady revenue growth, while maintaining its full-year financial guidance.
However, Philips’ net profit declined significantly after the company recorded a €288 million provision related to ongoing legal proceedings involving its Respironics business.
Philips Q3 Earnings Rise as Orders Increase 8%
Koninklijke Philips (AMS: PHIA, NYSE: PHG) reported an 8% year-over-year increase in comparable order intake during the third quarter of 2026.
The improvement reflected stronger demand for the company’s healthcare technology products, particularly within its Diagnosis & Treatment division.
Meanwhile, comparable sales increased 3%, with total quarterly revenue reaching €4.39 billion.
The results suggest that demand for Philips’ medical equipment and healthcare solutions remains resilient despite broader economic uncertainty.
Strong customer orders also provide the company with greater visibility into future sales opportunities.
Philips Adjusted EBITA Climbs to €569 Million
Philips recorded adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization (EBITA) of €569 million, compared with €531 million during the same period last year.
The increase reflects improved operating efficiency, stronger gross margins, and continued productivity improvements.
Adjusted EBITA margin expanded by 70 basis points to 13.0%, demonstrating the company’s progress in improving profitability.
Cost-saving initiatives also contributed to the stronger results, helping Philips offset inflationary pressures and other operating expenses.
The company reported €170 million in net productivity savings during the quarter, bringing total savings for the first nine months of 2026 to €427 million.
These improvements highlight Philips’ continued focus on operational efficiency and sustainable earnings growth.
Personal Health and Connected Care Lead Revenue Growth
Philips’ Personal Health division delivered the strongest comparable sales growth during the quarter, increasing 8% year-over-year.
The division benefited from demand for consumer healthcare products and personal wellness technologies.
Meanwhile, Connected Care recorded a 5% increase in comparable sales, supported by growth across its businesses.
The segment provides patient monitoring systems, healthcare informatics, and connected medical technologies used by hospitals and other healthcare providers.
In contrast, the Diagnosis & Treatment division reported relatively stable comparable sales.
Weaker Precision Diagnosis revenue was partly offset by growth in Image Guided Therapy.
Despite flat sales, Diagnosis & Treatment contributed significantly to the company’s stronger order intake, suggesting improving demand for its diagnostic and therapeutic technologies.
Philips Net Profit Falls Following €288 Million Legal Provision
Despite stronger adjusted earnings, Philips reported a substantial decline in net income during the third quarter.
Net profit fell to approximately €28 million from €187 million a year earlier.
The decline was largely driven by a €288 million provision connected to an agreement in principle with the US Department of Justice (DOJ).
The proposed settlement concerns criminal and civil investigations related to the recall of certain Philips Respironics sleep and respiratory care devices.
The company has been addressing the financial and legal consequences of the recall while continuing to strengthen its product safety and quality procedures.
Although Philips has reached a preliminary agreement with US authorities, the settlement remains subject to final documentation.
The company expects the related payment to take place during the first quarter of 2027.
Philips Maintains 2026 Earnings and Cash Flow Outlook
Following its improved operating performance, Philips reaffirmed its financial guidance for the full year.
The company continues to expect comparable sales growth of between 3% and 4.5% in 2026.
It also maintained its adjusted EBITA margin forecast of 13.5% to 14.0%.
The margin guidance includes an estimated benefit of approximately one percentage point from US tariff refunds.
Meanwhile, Philips expects full-year free cash flow of €1.5 billion to €1.7 billion.
This forecast incorporates an estimated net benefit of approximately €200 million from US tariff reimbursements.
The company stated that its financial projections account for currently known tariffs and assume that the proposed DOJ settlement payment will occur in 2027.
However, the outlook excludes potential financial consequences from other ongoing legal proceedings associated with Respironics.
Philips Outlook Supported by Strong Orders and Efficiency Gains
Philips’ third-quarter results highlight improving operational performance across several important business segments.
Higher order intake, stronger adjusted earnings, and expanding profit margins indicate progress in the company’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare technology operations.
At the same time, the sharp decline in reported net income demonstrates that legal expenses remain an important financial challenge.
Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor customer demand, profitability improvements, and the resolution of outstanding Respironics-related proceedings.
The company’s ability to convert rising orders into sustained revenue growth will also play a significant role in its longer-term performance.
For now, Philips’ decision to maintain its 2026 outlook reflects management’s confidence in its operating momentum, despite continued legal and economic uncertainty.
