PepsiCo stock edged higher on Thursday after the food and beverage giant reported better-than-expected third-quarter earnings and revenue. However, the company also lowered its full-year profit forecast, raising concerns about future earnings growth.
PepsiCo delivered core earnings per share (EPS) of $2.34, exceeding Wall Street’s forecast of $2.30. Meanwhile, quarterly revenue increased 5.6% to $25.27 billion, beating analysts’ expectations of $24.97 billion.
Organic sales growth accelerated to 3.1%, supported by higher sales volumes across the company’s beverage and convenient food businesses.
PepsiCo Q3 Earnings Beat Wall Street Expectations
PepsiCo reported a 3% increase in core operating profit, reaching $4.28 billion during the third quarter of 2026.
Nevertheless, its core operating margin declined by 35 basis points to 16.9%, reflecting continued pressure from rising business expenses.
The company benefited from tariff refunds, which contributed approximately four percentage points to core operating profit growth. However, higher operating costs and increased spending on advertising and marketing partially offset those gains.
Citi analysts noted that PepsiCo’s organic sales growth and gross margin exceeded their expectations. However, operating margins fell short of market estimates.
They also highlighted that approximately $0.06 of the earnings-per-share result came from lower interest and tax expenses.
Despite the stronger quarterly performance, Citi expressed concerns about the reduced 2026 profit guidance and its potential implications for earnings growth in 2027.
PepsiCo Cuts 2026 Profit Forecast
The most significant development in PepsiCo’s Q3 earnings report was the downward revision to its full-year profit outlook.
The company now expects core constant-currency EPS growth of 1% to 2%, compared with its previous forecast near the lower end of a 4% to 6% range.
Additionally, PepsiCo reduced its projected core EPS growth to between 2.5% and 3.5%. Its earlier guidance pointed toward the lower end of a 5% to 7% range.
These adjustments suggest that higher expenses and ongoing operational challenges could continue to weigh on profitability.
However, PepsiCo maintained a relatively stable outlook for organic sales growth.
The company now anticipates organic revenue growth of approximately 3%, narrowing its previous forecast range of 2% to 4%. This remains above analysts’ expectations of 2.5%.
Meanwhile, PepsiCo raised its net revenue growth forecast to around 6%, compared with its earlier projection of 4% to 6%. Favorable currency movements and acquisitions are expected to support the improved revenue outlook.
The company also maintained its planned shareholder returns of $8.9 billion, reinforcing its commitment to returning capital to investors.
North American Business Remains a Challenge
Despite encouraging international performance, PepsiCo continues to face difficulties in its North American operations.
Revenue trends in the convenient foods division improved compared with the previous quarter. Higher savory snack volumes and market share gains supported the business, although lower pricing limited overall growth.
Meanwhile, the North American beverage division recorded revenue growth of 5%, primarily driven by acquisitions completed in 2025.
PepsiCo’s international operations delivered stronger results, with each regional business segment reporting solid revenue growth.
This performance highlights the importance of international markets in supporting the company’s overall financial results.
PepsiCo Plans Cost Cuts and New Growth Investments
PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Ramon Laguarta emphasized the company’s efforts to strengthen its North American business.
Management plans to increase investment in product innovation, brand development, and more effective sales strategies across different distribution channels.
At the same time, PepsiCo is identifying additional structural cost reductions to improve operational efficiency.
These savings are intended to finance future growth initiatives while helping the company manage rising production and input costs.
According to management, the additional cost-saving measures will begin rolling out over the coming months.
What PepsiCo’s Earnings Mean for Investors
PepsiCo’s latest quarterly results present a mixed picture for investors.
On one hand, stronger-than-expected earnings, improving organic sales, and solid international performance demonstrate the company’s ability to generate revenue growth.
On the other hand, weaker operating margins and reduced profit guidance highlight the challenges facing its North American business.
Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor PepsiCo’s cost-cutting initiatives, pricing strategies, and progress toward restoring profitability.
For now, PepsiCo stock remains in focus as markets evaluate whether stronger sales growth can eventually translate into improved earnings performance.
