Nintendo shares surged on Friday after the Japanese gaming company reported stronger-than-expected first-quarter results and raised its full-year outlook, highlighting strong demand for the new Switch 2 console.

Nintendo Co Ltd shares closed 4.8% higher at ¥8,011, significantly outperforming the broader Nikkei 225, which fell around 0.8% during the session.

Nintendo Earnings Beat Expectations

Nintendo reported net profit attributable to shareholders of ¥145.4 billion for the quarter ended June 30.

That marked a sharp increase from ¥80.9 billion in the same period a year earlier. The result also exceeded the S&P Global Visible Alpha consensus estimate of ¥119.8 billion.

The stronger-than-expected performance helped lift investor confidence in Nintendo’s growth outlook following the launch of the Switch 2.

Revenue More Than Doubles

Quarterly revenue climbed to ¥572.3 billion, more than double the ¥246.6 billion recorded a year earlier.

The figure also came in comfortably above analysts’ expectations of approximately ¥506.9 billion.

The increase was largely driven by strong sales of the Switch 2 console, combined with solid demand for Nintendo’s first-party software titles.

The successful launch provided a major boost to the company’s hardware and software businesses during the quarter.

Nintendo Raises Full-Year Outlook

Following the strong quarterly performance, Nintendo upgraded several key financial forecasts for the full year.

The company now expects net profit of ¥380 billion, compared with its previous forecast of ¥340 billion.

Nintendo also raised its full-year revenue guidance to ¥2.15 trillion from an earlier estimate of ¥1.90 trillion.

Meanwhile, the operating profit forecast was increased to ¥500 billion from ¥450 billion.

The improved guidance suggests that management expects momentum surrounding the Switch 2 to continue during the remainder of the fiscal year.

Switch 2 Sales Drive Growth

Nintendo said Switch 2 shipments reached 8.67 million units during the quarter.

That figure was significantly stronger than market expectations and reinforced optimism surrounding the company’s latest console generation.

Software demand was also robust, particularly for first-party games released alongside the Switch 2.

Strong hardware adoption can often support future software sales because a larger installed user base gives Nintendo more opportunities to generate recurring revenue from game releases and digital content.

Nintendo Stock Benefits From Switch 2 Optimism

The combination of an earnings beat, stronger revenue growth and upgraded financial guidance helped drive Nintendo shares sharply higher.

Investors are now likely to focus on whether Switch 2 demand can remain strong in the coming quarters and whether Nintendo can maintain healthy software sales alongside continued console shipments.

For now, the company’s latest results suggest that the Switch 2 launch has provided a strong start to Nintendo’s new hardware cycle.
