The European Union will begin implementing its side of a trade agreement with the United States on July 1.

A formal EU regulatory filing confirmed that the new measures will remove import duties on a wide range of American goods.

Regulation Runs Until the End of 2029

The regulation will apply from July 1 until December 31, 2029.

The European Commission will review the agreement before the expiry date.

According to the filing, the Commission may also submit a new legislative proposal to extend the regulation if it considers an extension appropriate.

EU Removes Tariffs on U.S. Industrial Goods

Under the trade agreement, the EU will remove import duties on U.S. industrial products.

The bloc will also provide American agricultural exporters with preferential access to the European market.

These measures are designed to increase trade between the European Union and the United States.

Duty-Free U.S. Lobster Imports Extended

The agreement also extends duty-free access for U.S. lobster imports.

The measure was originally introduced through a smaller trade agreement reached with Donald Trump during his first presidential term.

Its extension will allow American lobster exporters to continue selling products in the EU without import tariffs.

Safeguards Allow EU to Suspend Concessions

The legislation includes several protections for the European Union.

These safeguards would allow the EU to suspend tariff concessions if the United States fails to comply with the terms of the agreement.

The measures are intended to ensure that both sides continue meeting their commitments throughout the regulation’s period of application.
