Amazon Web Services has announced a new Forward Deployed Engineering organization supported by a $1 billion investment.

The initiative will place AWS artificial intelligence experts directly with customers to help them build and deploy advanced AI systems.

AWS Engineers Will Work Directly With Customers

The AWS Forward Deployed Engineering program will send thousands of engineers to customer locations.

These specialists will work closely with business, engineering and security teams to create agentic AI solutions tailored to each organization.

AWS said the program could reduce AI deployment times from several months to just a few days.

Agentic AI Could Speed Up Deployment

The engineers will use agentic AI tools to accelerate the development and launch of production-ready systems.

Agentic AI refers to technology that can perform tasks, make decisions and complete workflows with limited human intervention.

AWS believes these tools can help companies move more quickly from testing AI projects to using them across daily operations.

AI Systems Will Use Customer Data and Governance Rules

AWS engineers will build AI systems using each customer’s own data, security requirements and governance procedures.

This approach is designed to ensure that the technology fits the customer’s existing infrastructure and business processes.

The engineers will also collaborate with internal teams to address security, compliance and operational requirements.

Customers Will Be Trained to Operate Independently

AWS said the goal is not to create long-term dependence on its embedded engineering teams.

Instead, the program is designed to leave customers capable of managing and operating their AI systems independently once deployment is complete.

Some of the engineers involved in the initiative also help develop AWS artificial intelligence products and services.

Major Organizations Already Working With AWS

Several companies and institutions are already collaborating with AWS Forward Deployed Engineering teams.

Participants include the Allen Institute, Cox Automotive, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, Ricoh and Southwest Airlines.

These organizations are using AWS expertise to explore how agentic AI can improve operations, customer experiences and internal workflows.

Businesses Move Beyond AI Testing

The announcement comes as more companies look to move beyond experimental AI projects.

According to AWS, businesses increasingly want artificial intelligence to become a central part of their operations rather than a limited testing tool.

The new $1 billion investment reflects growing demand for faster AI deployment and more practical support from cloud providers.
