The U.S. Energy Information Administration said on Wednesday that American crude and petroleum exports reached a new record in April.
The increase came as energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz were disrupted by the Iran war. As a result, global demand for U.S. energy exports rose sharply.
Total U.S. Exports Jump 15%
Total U.S. crude and petroleum exports climbed to 13.6 million barrels per day in April.
This marked a new all-time high and was 15% above the previous record, which was set in March.
Crude Oil Leads the Export Surge
Crude oil made up the largest share of total U.S. petroleum exports.
According to the EIA, crude exports averaged 5.6 million barrels per day in April. That was 21% higher than the previous record, which was reached in December 2023.
Propane Exports Also Reach New Milestone
Propane exports were the second-largest contributor to the record export figure.
For the first time in monthly EIA data, U.S. propane exports rose above 2.0 million barrels per day.
Distillate Fuel Oil Exports Hit Highest Level Since 2017
Distillate fuel oil exports formed the third-largest share of U.S. petroleum exports in April.
They increased to 1.6 million barrels per day, reaching their highest level since July 2017, according to EIA data.
Finished Petroleum Product Exports Rise
U.S. exports of finished petroleum products also increased.
This category includes distillate fuel oil, motor gasoline, jet fuel, and petroleum coke. Exports of these products reached their highest level since December 2024.
