Tether Brings USDT Back to Bitcoin
Tether is preparing to bring its USDT stablecoin back to the Bitcoin network through the latest RGB protocol v0.11.1 integration.
This marks an important return for USDT, which originally launched on Bitcoin in 2014 through the Omni-Mastercoin layer before later expanding heavily across other blockchains.
USDT Set to Launch on Bitcoin Again
The rollout is being led by UTEXO, which is working with Tether to mint and distribute USDT directly on Bitcoin.
The launch is expected in the coming weeks. Wallet providers and crypto exchanges are already preparing to support the new integration.
UTEXO co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk said the launch is the result of many years of development. He noted that the company is now bringing USDT back to Bitcoin with strong support from Tether.
How the RGB Protocol Helps USDT on Bitcoin
The RGB protocol combines Bitcoin’s UTXO security model, client-side validation, and the Lightning Network.
This setup will allow users to send and receive USDT from Bitcoin-native addresses. It also supports faster off-chain transactions through Lightning.
Another key benefit is privacy. Unlike account-based blockchains such as Ethereum, Tron, and Solana, RGB uses a different structure that can reduce the amount of visible transaction data on-chain.
UTEXO Builds Tools for Developers and Exchanges
According to UTEXO, the company has created a full software stack to support the rollout.
This includes APIs, developer tools, user interface components, and a mint bridge for moving assets between supported blockchains.
UTEXO also said that direct integration with Tether could help reduce extra intermediaries and lower transaction costs for users.
Faster and Cheaper Bitcoin-USDT Transfers
Ihnatiuk explained that UTEXO was built to make USDT move on Bitcoin in a faster, more private, and more predictable way.
He also pointed out that users currently face difficulties when switching between Bitcoin and USDT on many platforms. In some cases, they may deal with several layers of fees, spreads, and slippage.
By combining Bitcoin, USDT, and Lightning, the new integration could make swaps and transfers more efficient.
USDT Returns to Its Original Home
After years of delays, RGB development was pushed forward by UTEXO, a joint venture involving Boosty Venture Studio, Fulgur Ventures, and Tether Investments.
Ihnatiuk described the launch as a major milestone, saying that USDT is finally returning to Bitcoin after nearly eight or nine years.
Tether Faces Pressure in Europe
While Tether is moving forward with its Bitcoin integration, the company has faced regulatory pressure in Europe.
USDT recently exited parts of the EU market after Tether did not receive a MiCA license.
Even with those challenges, the RGB integration could strengthen USDT’s role in the Bitcoin ecosystem and create new options for stablecoin transfers on the world’s largest cryptocurrency network.
