Gunman Suspected of Targeting Trump Administration at Washington Event

A gunman who opened fire during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is believed to have deliberately targeted Donald Trump and members of his administration, according to Todd Blanche. What initially appeared to be a chaotic security breach is now being treated by investigators as a planned attack against the executive branch.

Blanche stated that evidence suggests the suspect intended to target individuals connected to the administration, possibly including the president himself.

Suspect Identified and Travel Timeline Revealed

The suspect, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, 31, is a teacher from Torrance, California. Authorities believe he traveled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago and then to Washington, D.C., before carrying out the attack at the Washington Hilton.

Investigators have recovered written materials linked to the suspect, although officials have not disclosed details regarding their contents or any confirmed motive.

Weapons Used and Charges Filed

Allen, a graduate of the California Institute of Technology with a master’s degree in computer science, allegedly used both a shotgun and a handgun during the attack. He was also found carrying knives at the time of his arrest.

He was apprehended at the scene and is scheduled to appear in federal court facing charges including assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon and use of a firearm during a violent crime.

Trump Calls for Enhanced White House Security

Following the incident, Trump renewed calls for the construction of a secure ballroom within White House grounds. He argued that such a facility would have prevented the attack, citing the vulnerability of hotel venues.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the proposed structure is already under construction and will include top-level security features. He also urged for any legal challenges to the project to be dismissed immediately.

Injuries Reported but Situation Contained

One U.S. Secret Service officer was injured in the shooting but remains in stable condition. Officials confirmed the agent is in good spirits, and Trump personally reached out to offer support.

Jeanine Pirro noted that a security checkpoint near the ballroom likely prevented further casualties, as it stopped the attacker from reaching a larger crowd.

Swift Response Limits Casualties

The incident triggered panic among attendees, including journalists, politicians, and public figures. Trump was quickly evacuated by Secret Service agents after a loud noise caused widespread alarm.

Despite the chaos, no senior federal officials were seriously harmed. Trump later praised the rapid response of security personnel and suggested the event should continue, pending law enforcement guidance.

Additional Injuries and Evacuations

Among those affected was Harmeet Dhillon, who suffered minor injuries during the evacuation process. She was assisted by federal agents and later expressed gratitude for their response.

Investigation Ongoing Into Motive

Authorities continue to investigate the suspect’s background, including his recent movements and potential motivations. Public records show no formal political affiliation, although a minor political donation was noted in 2024.

Previous Threats Against Trump

This marks the third incident authorities have described as an attempted attack against Trump since 2021. In 2024, he was injured during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, and another armed individual was later apprehended near his Florida golf course.

Public Reaction and Calls for Action

Gun violence prevention group Everytown for Gun Safety condemned the attack, calling the situation unacceptable and urging stronger measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
