US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a sharp reversal on Thursday, recording $635 million in net outflows as investors withdrew capital following several days of strong inflows.
The substantial withdrawals pushed October’s cumulative Bitcoin ETF flows back into negative territory, highlighting renewed uncertainty surrounding institutional demand for the world’s largest cryptocurrency.
According to data from SoSoValue, total net outflows for October reached $175 million, reversing the positive momentum recorded earlier in the week.
Bitcoin ETF Outflows Reach Highest Level Since June
Thursday’s $635 million in net withdrawals represented the largest single-day outflow from US spot Bitcoin ETFs since June 25, when the funds experienced approximately $696 million in redemptions.
The latest decline also more than offset Wednesday’s $528 million in net inflows, ending a three-day streak of positive investment flows.
During that period, Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $1.08 billion in combined inflows, suggesting that institutional demand had temporarily recovered.
However, Thursday’s reversal demonstrated how quickly investment sentiment can shift in the cryptocurrency market.
Despite the latest withdrawals, Bitcoin ETFs maintained approximately $443 million in net inflows for the week, according to the reported figures.
The weekly improvement followed two consecutive weeks of net outflows, indicating that investment activity remained volatile rather than consistently negative.
Bitcoin Price Falls Toward $81,000 Amid ETF Withdrawals
Bitcoin prices also came under pressure as investors assessed the latest ETF outflow figures.
The cryptocurrency traded between $80,996 and $82,551 on Thursday, remaining below Wednesday’s intraday high of $84,777.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin was changing hands near $81,783, representing a decline of approximately 1% over the previous 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.
The weaker price performance coincided with substantial withdrawals from spot Bitcoin ETFs, although fund flows alone do not necessarily explain short-term market movements.
The latest developments highlighted the contrast between the previous three days of positive institutional investment flows and the renewed selling pressure affecting Bitcoin.
Ethereum and Solana ETFs Also Record Outflows
The deterioration in ETF investment flows extended beyond Bitcoin, with several major altcoin investment products experiencing net withdrawals on Thursday.
Spot Ether ETFs recorded approximately $111 million in net outflows, representing the largest withdrawal figure among the altcoin funds mentioned in the report.
Solana ETFs also experienced negative flows, with investors withdrawing roughly $9 million.
Meanwhile, Hyperliquid (HYPE) ETFs registered approximately $8 million in net outflows.
However, XRP investment products moved against the broader trend.
XRP ETFs attracted around $3.6 million in net inflows, making them a notable exception during an otherwise negative session for cryptocurrency funds.
Bitcoin ETF Outlook Remains Uncertain After October Reversal
The latest Bitcoin ETF figures illustrate the changing sentiment surrounding cryptocurrency investment products.
Although the funds recently attracted more than $1 billion over three consecutive sessions, Thursday’s substantial withdrawals erased much of that progress and pushed October’s cumulative flows below zero.
At the same time, Bitcoin’s decline toward $81,000 reflected a challenging environment for digital assets.
Nevertheless, the reported positive weekly ETF flows suggest that institutional investment activity has not moved uniformly in one direction.
Investors will likely continue monitoring daily ETF flows alongside Bitcoin price movements to assess whether institutional demand can recover.
For now, October’s return to negative net Bitcoin ETF flows highlights the uncertainty surrounding near-term cryptocurrency market momentum.
