VanEck has launched a new actively managed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that combines traditional investments with Bitcoin exposure, offering investors a diversified portfolio through a single investment product.
The VanEck Wealth Builder ETF (NYSE: WBMO) targets a 2% allocation to Bitcoin, with flexibility to adjust its cryptocurrency exposure between 1% and 5%.
Announced on October 27, the fund brings together global stocks, bonds, gold and other real assets as VanEck expands its investment offerings beyond traditional portfolio strategies.
VanEck Wealth Builder ETF Combines Stocks, Bonds and Bitcoin
The new VanEck Wealth Builder ETF invests in a combination of the company’s own ETFs and funds managed by third-party providers.
Its investment strategy focuses on diversification across several asset classes, including global equities, fixed-income securities, commodities and digital assets.
Rather than purchasing Bitcoin directly, the fund gains cryptocurrency exposure through a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded product (ETP).
This structure allows investors to access Bitcoin price movements without directly managing cryptocurrency wallets or digital assets.
VanEck actively oversees the portfolio, adjusting allocations and rebalancing investments according to changing market conditions and its long-term economic outlook.
Bitcoin Allocation Targets 2% of the Portfolio
One of the fund’s distinguishing features is its relatively small Bitcoin allocation.
WBMO aims to maintain approximately 2% exposure to the cryptocurrency, although that allocation can fluctuate within a permitted range of 1% to 5%.
The approach seeks to introduce digital assets into a broader investment portfolio without making Bitcoin its primary component.
However, cryptocurrency investments remain highly volatile, and even limited exposure can introduce additional risks.
The fund builds on VanEck’s existing Wealth Builder model portfolios, which were previously available to financial advisers through external wealth management platforms.
By introducing the strategy as an ETF, VanEck is making its diversified investment approach accessible to a broader range of investors.
VanEck Challenges Traditional 60/40 Investment Strategies
David Schassler, VanEck’s head of multi-asset solutions, believes traditional portfolio construction needs to evolve alongside changing financial markets.
The conventional 60/40 investment strategy, which typically allocates 60% to stocks and 40% to bonds, was developed for a different economic environment, according to Schassler.
He suggested that incorporating real assets alongside equities and bonds could help investors navigate a broader range of economic conditions.
VanEck’s new fund reflects this philosophy by combining traditional securities with alternative investments, including gold and measured Bitcoin exposure.
The strategy aims to balance long-term growth opportunities, income generation and portfolio diversification.
VanEck Expands Cryptocurrency Access to Retirement Investors
The ETF launch follows VanEck’s continued efforts to integrate digital assets into mainstream investment products.
In March 2026, the asset manager announced a partnership with retirement technology platform Basic Capital.
The collaboration made selected VanEck digital asset exchange-traded products available through employer-sponsored 401(k) retirement plans in the United States.
The initiative reflects growing interest in incorporating cryptocurrency exposure into traditional retirement investment strategies.
VanEck has also expanded its presence across global financial markets, managing approximately $244.1 billion in assets as of September 30, 2026.
The introduction of the Wealth Builder ETF represents another step toward combining conventional portfolio management with emerging digital asset investments.
While Bitcoin remains a relatively small component of the fund, its inclusion highlights the growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies within diversified investment products.
