French inflation accelerated sharply in September, with consumer prices rising 3.4% compared with the same month a year earlier, according to official figures released Thursday by France’s national statistics agency, INSEE.

The latest reading, based on the European Union’s harmonised inflation measure, confirmed the preliminary estimate published in late September.

French Inflation Reaches Highest Level Since January 2024

Inflation in France, the eurozone’s second-largest economy, climbed from 2.6% in August to 3.4% in September. This marked the country’s highest annual inflation rate since January 2024.

The figures are based on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), a standardised measure that allows inflation rates to be compared across European Union member states.

The increase highlights renewed price pressures in the French economy, with inflation accelerating noticeably compared with the previous month.
