Bitcoin Falls Below $82,000 as Oil Prices Surge and Wall Street Tech Stocks Slide

Bitcoin fell below $82,000 on Thursday as rising oil prices and weakness in Wall Street technology stocks weighed on investor confidence. The cryptocurrency market extended its recent decline, although easing pressure on U.S. Treasury bonds helped limit further losses.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency dropped 1.8% to $81,657 by 21:53 GMT, following a volatile trading session that pushed prices toward their lowest levels in nearly three weeks.

Meanwhile, broader cryptocurrency markets also declined. Investors appeared to be taking profits after the strong rally recorded throughout the third quarter.

Even renewed Bitcoin purchases by Strategy, the largest corporate holder of the cryptocurrency, failed to reverse the negative market momentum.

Bitcoin Price Faces Pressure as Oil Prices Surge

Global financial markets came under renewed pressure after crude oil prices climbed more than 3% on Thursday.

The increase followed attacks on commercial shipping in the Middle East, which raised concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies. Unfavorable weather conditions along the U.S. Gulf Coast added further uncertainty to the oil market.

However, crude oil prices later surrendered part of their gains after President Donald Trump indicated that Washington would not launch military strikes against Iran before November’s U.S. midterm elections.

Earlier media reports had suggested that American officials were considering potential military action.

The combination of geopolitical uncertainty and rising energy costs weakened investor appetite for riskier assets, including Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Wall Street Technology Stocks Add to Market Weakness

Selling pressure also spread across major U.S. technology stocks, adding another obstacle for the cryptocurrency market.

The decline followed a Financial Times report suggesting that OpenAI’s annualized revenue was approximately $20 billion below previously communicated expectations.

The report cited financial documents that had reportedly been shared with potential investors.

Weakness in technology shares contributed to a broader deterioration in market sentiment, as investors reassessed their exposure to growth-oriented and speculative investments.

Bitcoin has increasingly reacted to changes in global financial conditions, particularly when technology stocks, bond yields, and geopolitical developments influence investor risk appetite.

U.S. Treasury Yields Retreat as Federal Reserve Outlook Remains Uncertain

Despite the wider market weakness, U.S. government bonds offered some relief to investors.

While European bond markets continued to experience selling pressure, U.S. Treasury yields declined on Thursday.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield fell 5.3 basis points to 5.225%. Meanwhile, the 30-year yield declined 5.4 basis points to 5.607%.

Market analysts attributed the temporary recovery to fading selling momentum in the bond market.

Higher Treasury yields typically create challenges for cryptocurrencies because rising borrowing costs can make speculative investments less attractive compared with interest-bearing assets.

Federal Reserve Interest Rate Expectations Shift

Investors remain focused on the Federal Reserve’s next monetary policy decision.

According to the CME FedWatch tool, markets assigned approximately an 82% probability to the Fed keeping interest rates unchanged at its upcoming meeting.

That compares with around 76% one week earlier and 54% a month ago.

Recent economic indicators have contributed to these changing expectations. Data showing continued U.S. economic growth, softer-than-anticipated inflation, and weaker employment figures have reduced expectations for an immediate rate increase.

Nevertheless, the possibility of additional monetary tightening remains.

Minutes from the Federal Reserve’s September meeting, released Wednesday, indicated that most policymakers expected another interest rate increase before the end of 2026.

Consequently, uncertainty surrounding U.S. monetary policy continues to influence Bitcoin prices and the broader cryptocurrency market.

Solana Announces Samsung Partnership for Stablecoin Payments

Despite the cryptocurrency market downturn, blockchain adoption continued to advance.

Solana announced a partnership with Samsung on Wednesday evening, expanding support for stablecoin transactions through Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay.

Under the agreement, U.S. Samsung Wallet users will be able to conduct cross-border payments using USD Coin (USDC) on the Solana blockchain.

The service is expected to become available in late October.

The partnership represents another step toward integrating blockchain technology into mainstream financial services.

Solana has already established connections with major payment providers, including PayPal and Western Union, which use its network for stablecoin-related services.

However, the positive development failed to support Solana’s native cryptocurrency, SOL, which declined approximately 4.2% during Thursday’s trading session.

Securitize Introduces Tokenized Stocks on Solana Blockchain

Another significant development came from digital asset platform Securitize, which announced plans to introduce blockchain-based trading of tokenized shares in major U.S. companies.

The initiative will initially include publicly traded businesses such as Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft.

The new products, known as Securitize Stocks, will operate on the Solana blockchain, with each digital token backed by shares in the corresponding company.

According to Securitize, the tokens are designed to preserve the economic benefits and shareholder rights associated with ownership of the underlying securities.

Tokenized Stock Trading Could Expand Toward 24/7 Markets

Initially, Securitize Stocks will be available for trading during extended market hours.

However, the company plans to eventually introduce continuous, 24-hour trading capabilities.

Securitize also expects its tokenized equities to become available through the New York Stock Exchange’s planned round-the-clock trading venue.

Additional trading opportunities could emerge through a platform being developed by cryptocurrency exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange.

The products are expected to be accessible to eligible investors in the United States, European Union, and other approved jurisdictions.

These developments highlight the growing convergence between traditional financial markets and blockchain-based infrastructure.

Ethereum, XRP, and Major Altcoins Follow Bitcoin Lower

The broader cryptocurrency market recorded widespread losses as Bitcoin’s decline triggered renewed selling pressure across major digital assets.

Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, fell 3.5% to approximately $2,478.82.

Meanwhile, XRP dropped 2.7%, reflecting the negative sentiment affecting leading cryptocurrencies.

Other major altcoins experienced even sharper declines.

Cardano lost approximately 8%, while BNB retreated 4.6%.

Memecoins were also affected by the market downturn. Dogecoin declined 4.8%, while the TRUMP token slipped 1.3%.

What Comes Next for Bitcoin and the Crypto Market?

Bitcoin’s latest decline highlights the cryptocurrency market’s continued sensitivity to global economic conditions.

Rising oil prices, geopolitical tensions, technology stock weakness, and uncertainty surrounding Federal Reserve policy remain important factors influencing investor sentiment.

Although the retreat in U.S. Treasury yields provided temporary support, concerns about elevated borrowing costs and potential monetary tightening continue to weigh on speculative assets.

At the same time, developments involving Solana, Samsung, and Securitize demonstrate that institutional and mainstream blockchain adoption is progressing despite short-term market volatility.

For Bitcoin investors, the key question is whether improving financial conditions can restore risk appetite and help the cryptocurrency recover above $82,000, or whether renewed selling pressure will lead to further losses.
