Bitcoin Holds Near $83.4K as Rising Yields and Iran Tensions Rattle Markets

Bitcoin traded in a narrow range on Tuesday as investors remained cautious amid rising US Treasury yields and ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency gained around 0.6% to trade near $83,637 in early trading. Bitcoin had climbed above $85,000 during the weekend before quickly giving back part of those gains.

Investor sentiment received some support from reports that Citi is expanding its digital asset services into Japan and the United Arab Emirates. The move added to expectations that traditional financial institutions will continue increasing their involvement in crypto markets.

Rising Treasury Yields Keep Bitcoin Under Pressure

Cryptocurrency markets remained under pressure after a sharp increase in US Treasury yields.

Investors are continuing to price in the possibility of additional interest-rate increases from the Federal Reserve. As a result, higher yields have reduced demand for speculative assets such as Bitcoin.

Important US employment data due later this week could provide further clues about the direction of monetary policy. Strong labor-market figures could strengthen expectations that interest rates will remain elevated for longer.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield recently climbed to its highest level in 19 years after the Federal Reserve raised rates by 25 basis points and maintained a hawkish outlook.

Persistent inflation remains one of the main reasons investors expect monetary policy to stay restrictive.

Iran Tensions Push Oil Prices Higher

Geopolitical risks are also adding pressure to financial markets.

Oil prices rose sharply amid limited progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran.

US President Donald Trump denied reports that his administration had offered Iran sanctions relief in return for assurances related to the Strait of Hormuz and the country’s nuclear programme.

Trump had also previously rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal.

At the same time, tensions involving Saudi Arabia and Houthi forces have kept investors concerned about possible disruptions to global oil supplies.

Higher energy prices could increase inflationary pressure, making it harder for central banks to lower interest rates.

Why Higher Rates Matter for Bitcoin

Higher interest rates can create a difficult environment for cryptocurrencies and other speculative investments.

When government bonds offer more attractive yields, investors may have less incentive to hold assets such as Bitcoin that do not generate regular income.

This increases the opportunity cost of investing in crypto and can put pressure on valuations across the sector.

USDT Report Highlights Links to Iranian Finance

Tether’s USDT stablecoin also came under scrutiny following a report from Senate Democrats.

The report described USDT as an important financial tool used by Iran and alleged that the stablecoin had also been involved in transactions linked to groups such as Hezbollah.

The investigation examined 846 cryptocurrency wallets linked to Iran that had been sanctioned by authorities in Israel and the United States.

According to the report, 84% of those wallets had conducted transactions involving USDT.

The stablecoin was allegedly used to help move funds across borders and support Iran’s financial system while the country remained subject to US sanctions.

USDT is currently the world’s largest dollar-backed stablecoin and has previously faced scrutiny over transactions involving sanctioned entities.

Altcoins Edge Higher

Broader cryptocurrency prices moved slightly higher on Tuesday as the market stabilised following weekend losses.

Ethereum gained around 1.8% to trade near $2,698, while XRP advanced roughly 1.6%.

Solana, Cardano and BNB remained relatively unchanged.

Among major memecoins, Dogecoin rose about 1.5%, while the TRUMP token declined approximately 1.3%.

Bitcoin Market Outlook

Bitcoin remains caught between improving institutional adoption and a challenging macroeconomic environment.

On one hand, increased involvement from major financial institutions could provide long-term support for the crypto sector.

However, rising Treasury yields, expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening, elevated oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty continue to limit investors’ appetite for risk.

For now, Bitcoin’s ability to hold above the $83,000 area could remain closely tied to upcoming US economic data and changes in interest-rate expectations.
