The picture was less positive on the Nasdaq, where 1,761 stocks declined and 1,623 advanced. A further 217 shares ended the session unchanged.

Wall Street Volatility Declines

Investor anxiety eased during the session.

The CBOE Volatility Index, commonly known as the VIX, dropped 5.11% to 14.87.

A lower VIX generally reflects reduced expectations for near-term volatility in the S&P 500.

Gold Rises While Oil Prices Fall

Commodity markets delivered mixed results.

December gold futures gained around 0.57% to trade at $4,322.60 per ounce.

Meanwhile, crude oil prices moved lower.

EUR/USD traded close to $1.14, while USD/JPY fell around 0.99% to 157.27.

The U.S. Dollar Index Futures slipped 0.27% to 100.75.

U.S. Stocks End the Week on a Positive Note

Friday’s gains helped Wall Street finish the session on a stronger footing, with the Dow Jones outperforming the broader S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite.

Technology and semiconductor stocks provided important support, while falling volatility suggested improving investor sentiment.

Markets will now continue to monitor interest rates, Treasury yields, commodity prices and upcoming economic data for clues about the next major move in U.S. stocks.
