Core Scientific has signed a major infrastructure agreement with semiconductor company AMD as it continues moving beyond traditional Bitcoin mining.
Under the deal, AMD could gain access to as much as 2.5 gigawatts of Core Scientific’s data center capacity. The partnership is expected to begin supporting customer deployments of AMD artificial intelligence technologies in 2027.
AMD Secures Up to 2.5 Gigawatts of Capacity
Core Scientific and AMD announced that they will work together on the design and development of physical AI infrastructure.
The companies plan to deploy AMD Instinct GPUs, EPYC processors and ROCm software across Core Scientific’s data center facilities.
The agreement could provide AMD with significant computing capacity as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to rise.
Meanwhile, Core Scientific could benefit from long-term revenue opportunities outside the increasingly competitive Bitcoin mining industry.
Core Scientific Expands Beyond Bitcoin Mining
The agreement represents another major step in Core Scientific’s transition from cryptocurrency mining toward high-density AI data center services.
Earlier this year, the company reportedly sold around 1,900 Bitcoin to improve liquidity and support its business transformation.
According to BitcoinTreasuries data cited in the report, Core Scientific still holds approximately 547 BTC.
The company continues to generate revenue from its own cryptocurrency mining operations and from hosting mining equipment for customers. However, it is gradually converting more of its facilities to support advanced colocation and artificial intelligence workloads.
Bitcoin Miners Move Into AI Infrastructure
Core Scientific is not the only Bitcoin mining company expanding into the AI data center market.
MARA recently strengthened its AI infrastructure portfolio through the acquisition of a facility in Texas. TeraWulf also signed a long-term data center agreement connected to Anthropic earlier this month.
Bitcoin miners often operate large facilities with substantial electricity capacity and cooling systems. Therefore, some companies are repurposing these assets to serve the rapidly growing demand for AI computing.
AMD Receives Warrants to Buy Core Scientific Shares
As part of the agreement, AMD will receive warrants allowing it to purchase Core Scientific common stock at market-based prices.
However, the warrants remain subject to certain commercial requirements outlined in the partnership.
This arrangement could give AMD a financial interest in Core Scientific while further aligning the two companies’ long-term goals.
CORZ Stock Reverses After Premarket Gain
Core Scientific shares initially climbed by more than 5% in premarket trading following the AMD announcement.
However, CORZ stock later fell by more than 3% after the market opened as a wider stock market sell-off placed pressure on the company’s shares.
The stock has declined by more than 12% over the past week. Nevertheless, CORZ remains more than 40% higher since the beginning of the year.
Investor optimism has largely been supported by Core Scientific’s transition toward artificial intelligence infrastructure, where demand for computing power and data center capacity continues to grow.
The AMD partnership could strengthen Core Scientific’s position in the AI infrastructure industry. Still, the company’s future performance will depend on its ability to convert existing mining sites, attract customers and manage the costs of developing high-density data centers.
