Trump Warns of Escalation Over South Pars Gas Field
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Israel will carry out no further attacks on Iran’s South Pars gas field unless Tehran escalates the situation. However, he warned that the United States could take drastic action, including destroying the site, if Iran launches another attack on Qatar.
In a post shared late Wednesday, Trump said Israel had already targeted the South Pars gas field in response to rising tensions in the Middle East.
Warning Tied to Potential Iranian Attacks on Qatar
Trump indicated that Israel would pause additional strikes on the key energy facility for now. However, he made it clear that any renewed Iranian attack on Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure would trigger a strong U.S. response.
He cautioned that Washington has the capability to completely destroy the South Pars gas field using overwhelming force, although he emphasized that such an outcome would have serious long-term consequences and should be avoided if possible.
Rising Middle East Tensions Threaten Energy Markets
The warning comes amid escalating tensions in the region. Iran recently carried out strikes on parts of Qatar’s LNG infrastructure, stating that the move was in retaliation for earlier attacks on its own energy facilities, including South Pars.
Trump also clarified that the United States had no prior knowledge of the initial strike and stressed that Qatar was not involved in the earlier escalation.
Global Energy Supply Risks Increase
These developments underscore growing concerns over global energy supply disruptions as the conflict intensifies. Key energy infrastructure in the Middle East remains at risk, raising fears of volatility in oil and gas markets.
