Trump mentioned the possible meeting while speaking about plans to build a new White House ballroom.
He suggested that a visit by Xi would require a large venue, saying many people would want to attend or see the Chinese president during his trip.
Timing Could Coincide With UN General Assembly
A visit around September 24 would fall close to the annual United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
Trump is expected to address the General Assembly on September 22. U.S. presidents often remain in New York for several days afterward to hold meetings with other world leaders.
Xi has rarely attended the UN gathering since becoming China’s leader in 2012.
Trump Had Already Signaled September Meeting
Trump had previously said he expected to host Xi in September. However, Monday’s remarks offered a more specific possible date for the visit.
The comments come as Washington and Beijing continue efforts to stabilize relations after recent tensions linked to the Iran war.

The two leaders last met in May during a summit in Beijing.
