Strategy Spends 3X More on STRC Buybacks Than Bitcoin

Michael Saylor’s Strategy has spent more than three times as much on STRC preferred share buybacks as on Bitcoin purchases, highlighting the company’s growing focus on capital management alongside its cryptocurrency accumulation strategy.

According to a November 2 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Strategy repurchased $208.2 million worth of STRC preferred shares during the week ending November 1.

Meanwhile, the company invested approximately $65.5 million in Bitcoin, acquiring 811 BTC at an average purchase price of $80,846 per coin.

The figures demonstrate how Strategy is balancing its Bitcoin treasury expansion with efforts to manage its preferred stock and strengthen financial flexibility.

Strategy STRC Buybacks Reach $208.2 Million

Strategy’s latest financial disclosure revealed that the company repurchased approximately 2.09 million shares of its STRC preferred stock between October 26 and November 1, 2026.

The transactions amounted to $208.2 million, substantially exceeding the company’s Bitcoin purchases during the same period.

STRC, officially known as Strategy’s Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, forms part of the company’s broader digital credit financing strategy.

The security is designed to provide investors with dividend income while helping Strategy raise capital for its Bitcoin-focused business model.

By repurchasing STRC shares, the company can manage its outstanding preferred securities and associated dividend obligations.

However, these buybacks also require substantial cash resources, creating an important trade-off between financial management and additional Bitcoin accumulation.

Strategy Acquires 811 Bitcoin for $65.5 Million

Despite allocating significantly more capital to preferred share repurchases, Strategy continued expanding its Bitcoin holdings.

The company purchased 811 BTC for approximately $65.5 million during the reporting period.

Its average acquisition price was $80,846 per Bitcoin, including fees and expenses.

Following the latest purchases, Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings increased to approximately 849,327 BTC.

The company reported an aggregate acquisition cost of $64.08 billion, equivalent to an average purchase price of approximately $75,451 per Bitcoin.

These figures reinforce Strategy’s position as one of the largest corporate Bitcoin holders worldwide.

Nevertheless, its latest capital allocation demonstrates that purchasing additional cryptocurrency is not the company’s only financial priority.

Strategy Raises $164 Million Through MSTR Stock Sales

Strategy financed its latest Bitcoin acquisition through the sale of additional common shares.

According to the SEC filing, the company sold approximately 1.18 million MSTR shares through its at-the-market equity offering program.

The transactions generated $164 million in net proceeds.

Of that amount, Strategy allocated $65.5 million to Bitcoin purchases.

The remaining $98.5 million was directed toward the company’s USD Cash balance.

Importantly, this allocation represents new cash added from the stock sales rather than the company’s total available cash holdings.

Strategy separately funded its $208.2 million STRC repurchases using its existing USD Cash resources.

Strategy Reports $4.79 Billion in Dollar Reserves

As of November 1, Strategy held approximately $132.7 million in USD Cash.

The company also maintained a separate U.S. dollar reserve valued at approximately $4.79 billion.

These two pools of capital serve different purposes.

Strategy’s USD Cash supports broader treasury operations, including Bitcoin acquisitions, preferred share repurchases, and other capital management activities.

Meanwhile, the larger dollar reserve is primarily intended to support preferred stock dividend payments and interest obligations.

During the reporting week, Strategy used approximately $43.4 million from this reserve to pay preferred stock dividends.

Maintaining these financial resources allows the company to manage its obligations while continuing its long-term Bitcoin treasury strategy.

STRC Repurchases Outpace Bitcoin Investments Throughout October

The latest transactions reflect a broader shift in Strategy’s capital allocation during October.

Between October 1 and October 25, the company spent approximately $664 million repurchasing STRC preferred shares.

Over the same period, Strategy invested roughly $72 million in additional Bitcoin.

The substantial difference suggests that supporting its preferred securities has become an important component of the company’s recent financial strategy.

However, the increased spending on STRC should not necessarily be interpreted as reduced confidence in Bitcoin.

Instead, Strategy appears to be managing its financing structure while maintaining exposure to the cryptocurrency market.

STRC Stock Remains Below Its $100 Target Price

Strategy’s preferred share repurchases also come as STRC continues trading below its intended $100 price level.

During Monday’s premarket session, STRC gained approximately 0.1% to $99.22.

The price remained roughly 0.8% below the company’s $100 reference level.

Strategy’s capital management policy generally avoids issuing additional STRC shares when the market price is below $100.

This restriction limits the company’s ability to raise new capital through STRC issuance while the security trades at a discount.

Consequently, repurchasing shares below the target level can form part of its broader efforts to support the preferred stock’s market position.

Investors will continue monitoring whether STRC can return to the $100 level and how that affects Strategy’s future financing decisions.

Metaplanet Announces $160 Million Share Buyback

Strategy is not the only Bitcoin-focused company pursuing substantial share repurchases.

Japan-based Metaplanet also disclosed significant buyback activity on Monday, November 2.

The company acquired approximately 96.45 million common shares between October 14 and October 31.

The transactions totaled around 25.27 billion Japanese yen, equivalent to approximately $160 million.

The repurchased shares represented roughly 7.1% of Metaplanet’s previously issued shares.

Metaplanet’s buyback program reflects its efforts to manage its capital structure while maintaining a corporate strategy centered on Bitcoin.

Share repurchases can reduce the number of outstanding shares, potentially increasing existing shareholders’ proportional ownership.

However, the actual benefits depend on the repurchase price, financing costs, and the company’s broader financial performance.

Bitcoin Treasury Companies Focus on Capital Efficiency

The latest developments at Strategy and Metaplanet highlight the growing importance of capital management among publicly traded Bitcoin treasury companies.

These businesses must balance cryptocurrency accumulation with shareholder interests, financing requirements, and financial obligations.

For Strategy, preferred stock buybacks provide an additional tool for managing its capital structure.

Meanwhile, common stock issuance continues to generate funding for Bitcoin purchases and cash reserves.

This combination allows the company to pursue multiple financial objectives rather than relying exclusively on cryptocurrency accumulation.

Nevertheless, issuing common shares can dilute existing shareholders, while preferred stock repurchases consume liquidity that could otherwise support additional investments.

Therefore, investors must evaluate both the benefits and costs of these financing decisions.

Strategy Bitcoin Outlook: Buybacks Become a Key Priority

Strategy’s latest SEC disclosure illustrates a notable difference between its recent preferred share repurchases and Bitcoin acquisition spending.

The company allocated $208.2 million to STRC buybacks, compared with $65.5 million for additional Bitcoin purchases.

Meanwhile, the sale of MSTR common shares generated $164 million, with $98.5 million allocated to USD Cash.

Despite the increased focus on capital management, Strategy continues holding a substantial Bitcoin position and remains committed to its broader digital asset treasury model.

Looking ahead, investors will closely monitor STRC’s market price, the company’s cash reserves, future share issuances, and the pace of Bitcoin accumulation.

Ultimately, Strategy’s financial performance will depend not only on Bitcoin price movements but also on its ability to manage financing costs, preferred dividend obligations, and shareholder value.
