Nvidia is reportedly in talks to invest around $2.5 billion in Thinking Machines Lab, an artificial intelligence startup founded by former OpenAI executive Mira Murati.

The discussions could deepen Nvidia’s relationship with the AI company as the chipmaker continues to expand its investments across the artificial intelligence sector.

Nvidia Eyes $2.5 Billion AI Investment

According to The Information, Nvidia is considering an investment of approximately $2.5 billion in Thinking Machines Lab.

The startup is also reportedly seeking to raise at least $1 billion from investors.

The fundraising round could value Thinking Machines Lab at around $40 billion, according to people familiar with the discussions.

Thinking Machines Lab Expands Nvidia Partnership

A potential new investment would build on an existing partnership between Nvidia and Thinking Machines Lab.

In March, Nvidia announced a collaboration with the startup that included an investment as well as plans to provide advanced AI computing infrastructure.

Under that agreement, Nvidia said it planned to supply at least 1 gigawatt of next-generation AI systems to Thinking Machines Lab.

The partnership highlights the startup’s growing demand for high-performance computing capacity as it develops new artificial intelligence technologies.

Nvidia Continues Investing Across the AI Sector

The latest talks reflect Nvidia’s broader strategy of investing throughout the artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Demand for Nvidia’s AI processors has surged as technology companies, cloud providers and startups continue to expand their AI infrastructure.

The chipmaker has reportedly invested in more than 100 AI startups over the past two years.

These investments allow Nvidia to strengthen its relationships with emerging AI companies while also supporting future demand for its hardware.

Deal Is Not Yet Guaranteed

Despite the reported discussions, there is no guarantee that the negotiations will result in a completed investment.

The Information reported that talks remain ongoing, meaning the size and terms of any potential deal could still change.

If completed, the investment would further strengthen Nvidia’s position as one of the most active investors in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry.
