German industrial orders increased by 4.4% in September compared with the previous month, according to data released Thursday by Germany’s Federal Statistical Office.

The figures, adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, showed a smaller increase than economists had anticipated.

German Industrial Orders Miss Market Expectations

Economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast a monthly increase of 4.8%. However, the actual growth rate of 4.4% fell short of those expectations by 0.4 percentage points.

Despite missing forecasts, the positive reading indicates an improvement in industrial orders during September.

Germany’s Manufacturing Sector in Focus

The latest figures provide an important indicator of demand across Germany’s industrial sector.

Although the increase in orders represents a positive monthly development, the weaker-than-expected result highlights the importance of monitoring upcoming economic data.

Investors and analysts will watch future industrial orders reports for further evidence of whether demand in Germany’s manufacturing sector is strengthening.
