US spot Bitcoin ETFs ended October 2026 with significant investor withdrawals, reversing earlier gains as cryptocurrency markets struggled with heightened volatility following the massive $6.3 billion Binance hack.

According to data from SoSoValue, investors withdrew approximately $643 million from US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Friday, October 30.

The latest withdrawals pushed October’s total net flows into negative territory, leaving Bitcoin ETFs with approximately $515 million in monthly outflows.

Meanwhile, US spot Ethereum ETFs experienced even greater selling pressure, recording a historic $1.61 billion in net withdrawals during October.

Bitcoin ETF Outflows Reach $643 Million Following Binance Hack

Friday’s $643 million withdrawal marked a significant reversal for Bitcoin investment products, ending four consecutive trading sessions of positive inflows.

The substantial selling activity contributed to the first negative month for US spot Bitcoin ETFs since June.

Despite October’s disappointing performance, Bitcoin funds maintained approximately $361 million in cumulative net inflows for 2026 through the end of the month.

The outflows occurred during a period of heightened uncertainty across the cryptocurrency market, as investors assessed the consequences of the record-breaking security breach at Binance.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume confirmed on Friday that hackers had stolen approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets.

The incident renewed concerns about cryptocurrency custody, exchange security, and the potential risks facing institutional investors.

BlackRock and Fidelity Bitcoin ETFs Lead Withdrawals

Two of the largest US spot Bitcoin ETFs accounted for a substantial portion of Friday’s investor withdrawals.

According to data from Farside Investors, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) recorded approximately $234 million in net outflows.

Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) followed with withdrawals totaling $201 million.

Together, the two investment products experienced approximately $435 million in net redemptions, representing a significant share of the day’s overall Bitcoin ETF outflows.

The withdrawals followed Bitcoin’s decline toward $77,000 on Thursday, reflecting weaker market sentiment and increased uncertainty surrounding digital asset security.

However, ETF withdrawals do not necessarily indicate permanent institutional exits from Bitcoin, as investment flows can fluctuate with market conditions and portfolio adjustments.

Binance Security Breach Raises Questions About Bitcoin ETF Custody

The unprecedented Binance cyberattack also triggered discussions about potential security vulnerabilities within institutional cryptocurrency investment products.

Yishi, founder and CEO of hardware wallet manufacturer OneKey, raised concerns on X about the security risks associated with BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust.

He suggested that IBIT could face similar cybersecurity threats because of its significant reliance on Coinbase for Bitcoin custody services.

The comments highlighted broader questions surrounding the concentration of digital asset custody among major cryptocurrency service providers.

However, the warning does not establish that IBIT or Coinbase experienced a security breach.

The Binance incident has nevertheless brought renewed attention to the importance of secure custody infrastructure and risk management within the cryptocurrency industry.

Ethereum ETFs Record Historic $1.61 Billion Monthly Outflows

Ethereum investment products faced even stronger withdrawal pressure during October.

US spot Ether ETFs registered approximately $156 million in net outflows on Friday, contributing to a record monthly withdrawal total of $1.61 billion.

The figure surpassed the previous monthly outflow record of $1.42 billion, established in November 2025.

October’s heavy withdrawals also erased the cumulative net inflows that Ethereum ETFs had accumulated earlier in 2026.

By the end of October, US spot Ether funds had recorded approximately $45 million in net outflows for the year.

The figures indicate that Ethereum-focused investment products experienced particularly challenging conditions during the month, with investors reducing their exposure amid broader cryptocurrency market uncertainty.

Crypto ETF Investors Face Renewed Market Uncertainty

The simultaneous withdrawals from Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs highlight a difficult period for institutional cryptocurrency investment products.

Bitcoin funds recorded their first negative monthly flow since June, while Ethereum ETFs experienced their largest monthly withdrawals on record.

The selling pressure coincided with significant cryptocurrency price volatility and heightened concerns following the Binance security breach.

Nevertheless, ETF flows alone do not establish whether investors are permanently reducing cryptocurrency exposure or temporarily adjusting their positions.

Future inflow and outflow patterns will provide further insight into institutional appetite for digital assets.

Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF Outlook Remains Uncertain

The cryptocurrency market enters November facing important questions about investor confidence, digital asset security, and the sustainability of institutional demand.

For Bitcoin ETFs, the immediate focus will be whether investors return following October’s $515 million in net withdrawals.

Ethereum ETFs face an additional challenge after experiencing record monthly outflows and slipping into negative territory for 2026.

Meanwhile, the fallout from the Binance hack could keep cryptocurrency custody and security risks in focus across the industry.

Investors will closely monitor upcoming ETF flow data, Bitcoin and Ethereum prices, and broader market developments for signs of improving sentiment.
