Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) shares climbed more than 4% in premarket trading on Thursday after the pharmaceutical giant reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter 2026 earnings and raised its full-year revenue forecast.

The company’s impressive financial performance was largely driven by surging global demand for its blockbuster diabetes and weight-loss treatments, Mounjaro and Zepbound.

Eli Lilly also delivered substantial revenue growth, reinforcing investor confidence in its expanding pharmaceutical portfolio and long-term business outlook.

Eli Lilly Q3 Earnings Beat Wall Street Expectations

Eli Lilly reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $7.48 for the third quarter, comfortably exceeding analysts’ consensus estimate of $5.60.

The result represented an earnings surprise of $1.88 per share, highlighting the company’s stronger-than-anticipated profitability.

Meanwhile, quarterly revenue jumped 39% year over year to $24.4 billion, compared with $17.6 billion during the same period in 2025.

The figure also surpassed Wall Street’s revenue forecast of $22.42 billion, demonstrating continued momentum across Eli Lilly’s pharmaceutical business.

However, approximately $900 million of quarterly revenue came from favorable adjustments and other benefits. These included $410 million in milestone payments related to Jardiance, alongside revisions to estimated rebates and discounts.

Mounjaro and Zepbound Sales Drive Strong Revenue Growth

Eli Lilly’s diabetes and obesity treatments remained the primary contributors to its impressive quarterly performance.

Mounjaro revenue surged 65% year over year to approximately $10.7 billion, supported by strong international demand and increasing treatment adoption.

At the same time, U.S. Zepbound sales climbed 48% to around $5.4 billion, reflecting sustained demand for weight-loss medications.

Together, the two treatments generated approximately $16.1 billion in quarterly revenue, accounting for a substantial portion of Eli Lilly’s overall sales.

Furthermore, the company’s expanding presence in the diabetes and obesity treatment markets continues to support its growth prospects.

Eli Lilly Raises 2026 Revenue Guidance to $91 Billion

Following the strong earnings report, Eli Lilly increased its full-year 2026 revenue forecast to between $91 billion and $92 billion.

The revised outlook represents a significant improvement from its previous guidance of $85 billion to $87 billion.

Additionally, the new midpoint of $91.5 billion exceeds analysts’ consensus forecast of $88.7 billion.

The upward revision reflects stronger underlying business performance, expanding product demand, and continued growth across key therapeutic categories.

Eli Lilly Chairman and CEO David Ricks highlighted the company’s strong quarterly results, pointing to global demand for Mounjaro and Zepbound as major growth drivers.

He also emphasized the international launch of Foundayo, broader U.S. insurance coverage for obesity treatments, and increasing contributions from newer products in oncology, immunology, and neuroscience.

Adjusted Earnings Outlook Lowered Despite Strong Performance

Despite raising its revenue forecast, Eli Lilly reduced its full-year adjusted earnings guidance.

The company now expects adjusted EPS of $35.00 to $36.00, compared with its previous projection of $35.50 to $36.50.

However, the revised midpoint of $35.50 remains above the analyst consensus estimate of $34.46.

According to the company, improved underlying operating performance contributed an additional $4.07 per share to its guidance midpoint.

Nevertheless, this improvement was more than offset by $4.57 per share in acquired in-process research and development charges associated with third-quarter business development activities.

Therefore, the lower adjusted earnings forecast primarily reflects acquisition-related research expenses rather than weaker underlying commercial performance.

Eli Lilly Gross Margin Expands to 83.9%

Eli Lilly also reported an improvement in profitability at the gross margin level.

The company’s reported gross margin reached 83.9% of revenue, representing an increase of one percentage point compared with the previous year.

The improvement was supported by a favorable product mix and greater manufacturing efficiency, although lower realized selling prices partially offset these benefits.

Meanwhile, continued investment in research, development, and pharmaceutical manufacturing remains central to Eli Lilly’s long-term expansion strategy.

The company is also seeking to strengthen its pipeline of treatments across several major therapeutic areas.

Eli Lilly Stock Outlook Remains Supported by Drug Demand

The positive initial market reaction to Eli Lilly’s earnings reflects investor optimism about the company’s revenue growth and expanding position in the obesity treatment market.

Strong demand for Mounjaro and Zepbound remains a critical factor behind the pharmaceutical company’s financial performance.

However, investors will also monitor competition, pricing pressures, manufacturing capacity, and future research and development expenses.

Additionally, the company’s ability to sustain revenue growth while managing its expanding investment commitments could influence future stock performance.

Overall, Eli Lilly’s third-quarter results demonstrated strong commercial momentum, with higher revenue guidance reinforcing confidence in its business outlook.

Although the revised adjusted earnings forecast reflects additional research-related costs, continued demand for its leading treatments provides an important foundation for future growth.
