Adidas shares climbed 3.3% in early Frankfurt trading on Wednesday after the German sportswear giant raised its 2026 profit forecast following stronger-than-expected third-quarter results.

The upgraded outlook reflects improving profitability and the company’s ability to maintain growth despite challenging market conditions.

Adidas has also accelerated product development as demand for its popular Samba and Gazelle sneakers begins to moderate.

Adidas Raises 2026 Operating Profit Forecast

The German sportswear manufacturer announced an unexpected preliminary earnings update on Tuesday, revealing stronger financial performance during the third quarter.

Adidas now expects annual operating profit to reach approximately €2.5 billion in 2026, compared with its previous forecast of €2.3 billion.

The company said underlying operating earnings should exceed earlier expectations by around €100 million, excluding a €200 million refund related to US tariffs recorded during the third quarter.

Adidas also plans to reinvest approximately €100 million during the fourth quarter to support future business growth.

Including the tariff refund, improved operating performance and planned reinvestment, the company increased its full-year profit guidance by €200 million.

The revised forecast highlights Adidas’ improving profitability as it continues expanding its global market presence.

New Adidas Products Support Growth Strategy

Adidas is increasingly focusing on innovation and new footwear designs to maintain consumer interest.

The company has been introducing fresh products as the popularity of its established Samba and Gazelle sneaker collections gradually cools.

One notable launch is the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, which Adidas describes as its lightest racing shoe ever.

The advanced running shoe gained international attention after Kenyan athlete Sabastian Sawe broke the two-hour marathon barrier in April 2026 while wearing the model.

The achievement highlighted Adidas’ investment in performance footwear and its efforts to strengthen its position in the competitive sportswear industry.

By expanding its product portfolio, Adidas aims to sustain demand beyond its established lifestyle collections.

Analysts Highlight Strong Adidas Earnings Performance

Financial analysts responded positively to the company’s upgraded earnings outlook.

Analysts at Metzler described the unexpected announcement as further evidence that Adidas continues gaining market share while delivering profitable growth in a difficult operating environment.

Meanwhile, J.P. Morgan analysts reported that Adidas exceeded market expectations on key profitability measures, even after excluding tariff-related benefits.

According to the investment bank, third-quarter gross profit surpassed market forecasts by 2%.

Underlying operating profit performed even better, exceeding analysts’ expectations by 9%.

These results suggest that Adidas’ improved financial performance extends beyond the one-time benefit of US tariff refunds.

The stronger earnings outlook and continued investment in new products could help the company maintain its growth momentum heading into 2027.

Nevertheless, future performance will depend on consumer demand, competitive pressures and the company’s ability to deliver successful new products.
