Elon Musk has expressed support for a potential Tesla-SpaceX merger, a deal that could create a technology powerhouse valued at approximately $3.5 trillion. The combined company would bring together artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, robotics, and space exploration.
During SpaceX’s third-quarter earnings call on Tuesday, Musk described the proposed merger as a positive development. However, he emphasized that no final decision has been made.
Tesla and SpaceX Form Committees to Explore Merger
According to Musk, both companies have established special committees consisting of independent directors to evaluate the potential transaction. Shareholders reportedly requested the discussions.
Musk will not participate directly in the negotiations because of his financial interests in both businesses.
A successful merger would unite Tesla with SpaceX’s expanding technology ecosystem, including SpaceXAI, the developer of Grok, and social media platform X.
Musk highlighted several opportunities for collaboration, including advanced AI software, semiconductor development, robotics, and satellite communications.
He also pointed to the Terafab chip manufacturing initiative and the Starmind satellite constellation as projects that could benefit from closer cooperation.
Nevertheless, the billionaire cautioned investors against assuming that a merger is inevitable.
Neither committee has agreed on transaction terms, and shareholder approval remains a significant obstacle.
Tesla would need affirmative votes representing at least 50% of all outstanding shares, rather than a simple majority of participating voters. Musk acknowledged that securing this level of support could prove challenging.
SpaceX AI Revenue Surges 830% in Third Quarter
The merger discussions emerged alongside impressive financial results from SpaceX, highlighting the company’s growing reliance on artificial intelligence.
SpaceX reported third-quarter revenue of $14.6 billion, representing a 161% increase compared with the same period last year.
Its Super Intelligence division became the company’s largest revenue contributor, generating approximately $7.6 billion during the quarter.
That figure represents an extraordinary 830% year-over-year increase, demonstrating the rapid expansion of SpaceX’s AI business.
The company attributed this growth to several developments, including new cloud computing agreements, its acquisition of AI coding platform Cursor, and broader adoption of Grok among businesses and individual users.
These results underscore the increasing importance of artificial intelligence within Musk’s businesses, potentially strengthening the strategic case for combining Tesla and SpaceX.
Tesla-SpaceX Merger Could Create a Major Bitcoin Holder
Beyond artificial intelligence and space technology, a potential merger could also consolidate substantial corporate Bitcoin reserves.
According to quarterly financial disclosures, SpaceX held 18,712 Bitcoin (BTC) as of June 30, 2026.
Tesla reported owning another 11,509 BTC on the same date.
Together, these holdings would total approximately 30,221 BTC, assuming neither company changes its Bitcoin position.
Based on those reported balances, the combined business would rank among the world’s largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holders, potentially occupying sixth place.
Such a development would bring two prominent Bitcoin treasuries under a single corporate structure, further expanding Musk’s influence across technology and digital assets.
For now, the proposed Tesla-SpaceX merger remains under evaluation. Its future will depend on negotiations between the independent committees, shareholder support, and the necessary regulatory approvals.
