Looking for the latest crypto news today? Here is a roundup of the biggest developments affecting Bitcoin, blockchain, DeFi, Web3 and cryptocurrency regulation.
Today’s crypto headlines include a major phishing campaign targeting hundreds of thousands of phone numbers, fresh warnings over the CLARITY Act, and a bullish Bitcoin forecast from Standard Chartered.
Crypto Phishing Campaign Targets 885,000 Phone Numbers
Cybersecurity firm Rapid7 has uncovered a large cryptocurrency phishing operation known as Operation Asterix.
The campaign targeted roughly 885,000 phone numbers across several countries in an effort to steal crypto assets from investors.
Rapid7 said the recovered data included 5,576 accounts linked to Binance users that had reportedly been prepared as potential targets.
The campaign also used fraudulent emails designed to impersonate major crypto platforms, including Crypto.com.
Germany Among the Largest Targets
One of the largest datasets discovered during the investigation contained more than 316,000 German mobile phone numbers.
Other targeted regions included Hong Kong, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
Some of the data also appeared to target users connected to Ledger and other cryptocurrency services.
Attackers reportedly used fake applications pretending to represent Ledger, Trezor and Exodus.
Victims were then encouraged to provide sensitive information, including crypto wallet seed phrases.
Phishing Remains a Major Crypto Security Threat
Social engineering and phishing scams continue to account for a significant portion of cryptocurrency-related losses.
According to blockchain security firm Hacken, phishing and social engineering attacks were responsible for approximately $306 million of the $482 million lost during the first quarter of the year.
Operation Asterix reportedly relied on fake customer support emails and phone calls to convince users that they were communicating with legitimate crypto companies.
Senator Warns Against Rushing the CLARITY Act
Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Ruben Gallego has warned lawmakers against moving too quickly on the CLARITY Act, which aims to establish a clearer regulatory structure for cryptocurrency markets.
Speaking at the SALT Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Gallego said unresolved issues could make an early Senate vote counterproductive.
Key disagreements reportedly remain around ethics rules, stablecoin yield provisions and parts of the legislation being handled by the Senate Agriculture Committee.
Bipartisan Support Remains Critical
The legislation still needs enough bipartisan support to clear the Senate’s 60-vote threshold.
Gallego argued that lawmakers should continue negotiations before forcing a procedural vote.
He warned that pushing the legislation forward before a broader agreement is reached could ultimately delay the process rather than accelerate it.
The debate adds uncertainty to efforts by the Trump administration to move crypto market structure legislation through Congress.
Standard Chartered Sees Bitcoin at $100,000
Bitcoin also returned to the spotlight after rising more than 6% toward $69,000.
Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick said improving financial market liquidity could help push Bitcoin toward $100,000 by the end of 2026.
Kendrick identified $65,500 as an important technical level.
According to his analysis, a sustained move above that level could indicate that Bitcoin has already established its current cycle low.
Treasury Buybacks Could Support Bitcoin Liquidity
The bullish Bitcoin outlook also comes after the U.S. Treasury announced plans to increase its bond buyback operations.
From September 9 through November 4, maximum buybacks for certain longer-term Treasury securities are expected to rise from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation.
The announcement helped push longer-term Treasury yields lower following a sharp bond market selloff.
Kendrick believes improved liquidity conditions could provide support for Bitcoin.
He also pointed to Bitcoin’s fixed supply as one factor that could strengthen demand among investors concerned about currency debasement and long-term monetary risks.
Crypto Markets Watch Regulation, Security and Liquidity
Today’s crypto market developments highlight three major themes currently shaping the industry: security risks, regulatory uncertainty and global liquidity conditions.
Phishing attacks remain a major threat for cryptocurrency users, while lawmakers continue to debate the future of U.S. crypto regulation.
At the same time, improving liquidity conditions and lower bond yields could become an important catalyst for Bitcoin if current trends continue.
