NVIDIA and Amkor Agree to $1.5 Billion U.S. Chip Packaging Expansion

Amkor Technology has signed a multi-year agreement with NVIDIA valued at $1.5 billion. The partnership will expand advanced semiconductor packaging and testing capacity in the United States as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to rise.

Following the announcement, Amkor shares climbed approximately 17% in extended trading.

NVIDIA to Support Amkor’s U.S. Expansion

As part of the agreement, NVIDIA will provide Amkor with an upfront payment to help finance the expansion of its advanced packaging operations in the United States.

The investment will support additional manufacturing capacity, including Amkor’s planned semiconductor packaging facilities in Arizona.

New Packaging Technology for NVIDIA AI Chips

NVIDIA and Amkor will also work together to develop advanced packaging and testing technologies for AI and accelerated computing products.

Their work will focus on integrating different types of semiconductor components into a single package. This approach can improve performance, efficiency and communication between chips used in complex AI systems.

Partnership Builds on an Existing Relationship

Amkor already provides advanced packaging services for several NVIDIA products, including processors used in data centers.

The expanded agreement is expected to help both companies introduce new packaging technologies as demand for AI servers, data centers and computing infrastructure grows worldwide.

Amkor Strengthens Its U.S. Semiconductor Partnerships

The NVIDIA agreement follows another major partnership announced by Amkor in June.

Amkor entered a 10-year collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, better known as TSMC, to strengthen semiconductor packaging capabilities in the United States.

The company also works with Advanced Micro Devices, or AMD, providing packaging services for its semiconductor products.

AI Demand Drives Chip Packaging Investment

Advanced packaging has become increasingly important as semiconductor companies combine processors, memory and other components inside more powerful computing systems.

The $1.5 billion agreement between NVIDIA and Amkor highlights the growing investment in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and the infrastructure required to support the expanding AI industry.
