Meta and Reliance Partner to Build AI Data Center in India
Meta Platforms has announced a new partnership with India’s Reliance Industries to develop a large-scale artificial intelligence data center, marking another major investment in the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure sector.
Under the agreement, Reliance will construct and operate the facility, while Meta will lease the site to support its growing AI computing needs.
168-Megawatt AI Facility Planned in Gujarat
The new data center will be located in Jamnagar, Gujarat, and is expected to have an initial capacity of 168 megawatts.
According to Meta, both companies will also explore opportunities to further expand the facility’s capacity in the future as demand for AI computing power continues to increase.
The project is designed to support next-generation artificial intelligence applications and large-scale computing workloads.
Renewable Energy to Power Operations
A key feature of the new AI data center will be its reliance on renewable energy sources.
The companies stated that the facility will operate using clean energy, aligning with growing industry efforts to reduce the environmental impact of energy-intensive AI infrastructure.
As AI adoption accelerates worldwide, technology firms are increasingly prioritizing sustainable energy solutions for their data center operations.
Expanding an Existing AI Partnership
The latest agreement builds upon a broader collaboration between Meta and Reliance announced earlier this year.
As part of a $100 million joint venture, the two companies committed to developing enterprise artificial intelligence solutions for Indian businesses using Meta’s open-source Llama AI models.
The partnership aims to accelerate AI adoption across India by providing advanced tools and services tailored to local enterprises.
Meta Accelerates Global AI Expansion
The new data center deal comes as major technology companies compete aggressively to expand their AI capabilities and secure additional computing capacity.
Artificial intelligence has become one of the fastest-growing segments of the technology industry, driving substantial investments in data centers, specialized chips, and cloud infrastructure.
Meta has emerged as one of the sector’s biggest spenders, forecasting capital expenditures of between $125 billion and $145 billion in 2026 to support its AI expansion strategy.
With demand for AI services continuing to rise, the partnership with Reliance strengthens Meta’s position in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing technology markets.
