Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced on Friday that it will reduce the fees charged to app developers in China, marking a rare policy adjustment in the company’s largest international market.
The iPhone manufacturer revealed that its App Store commission on digital purchases in China will fall to 25%, down from the previous 30%, following discussions with local regulators. The updated fee structure is scheduled to take effect on Sunday.
The reduction will also apply to smaller developers and selected subscription-based services. Under the revised policy, commissions for these categories will decrease from 15% to 12%, offering additional support to smaller app creators operating within the Chinese market.
The move reflects Apple’s efforts to adapt its App Store policies to regulatory expectations while maintaining strong relationships with developers in China, one of the company’s most important global markets.
