NVIDIA and Mira Murati’s startup Thinking Machines Lab have announced a multi-year strategic partnership aimed at deploying at least one gigawatt of next-generation Vera Rubin AI systems, according to a statement released Tuesday. The large-scale infrastructure initiative is designed to support the training of advanced artificial intelligence models and deliver customizable AI platforms at an unprecedented level.

The agreement represents a major expansion for Thinking Machines, the public benefit corporation founded by Murati in early 2025. In addition to supplying cutting-edge hardware, NVIDIA will also make a significant financial investment in the startup to support its long-term growth and research development.

Murati, who previously served as Chief Technology Officer at OpenAI, has rapidly positioned Thinking Machines as an emerging competitor in the global AI industry. The company previously raised $2 billion in seed funding, reaching a valuation of approximately $12 billion only months after launching.

The partnership will focus on building specialized systems for both AI training and deployment. It also aims to expand access to open artificial intelligence models for businesses, researchers, and the broader scientific community. Thinking Machines plans to integrate NVIDIA’s advanced architectures into its “Tinker” fine-tuning API and other tools designed to improve human-AI collaboration.

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, described artificial intelligence as one of the most powerful tools for knowledge discovery in history. He emphasized that the team assembled by Murati is well positioned to push the boundaries of AI innovation.

Murati highlighted that the collaboration will provide the technological foundation required to develop more transparent and collaborative AI systems. According to her, NVIDIA’s technology has become a cornerstone of modern artificial intelligence infrastructure and will accelerate efforts to build AI systems that people can better understand and control.

NVIDIA has not yet responded to a request for comment on the announcement. Meanwhile, the company’s shares were up about 1.7% in late-morning trading, reflecting continued investor interest in the AI sector.
