France’s annual consumer inflation rate stood at 0.4% in January, according to figures released on Wednesday by INSEE, the country’s national statistics agency.
The reading was in line with both the preliminary estimate published earlier this month and economists’ forecasts in a Reuters survey, confirming expectations that price pressures remained subdued at the start of the year.
The EU-harmonised measure of inflation, which allows comparison across euro area countries, also showed a slowdown in the euro zone’s second-largest economy. The annual rate eased from 0.7% in December to 0.4% in January, highlighting a continued moderation in price growth.
