U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call on Monday, discussing a range of major geopolitical and economic issues while agreeing to exchange state visits in 2026.

Trump described the call as “very good,” noting that the two leaders talked about the Ukraine–Russia conflict, fentanyl trafficking, soybeans, and other agricultural topics. The discussion comes shortly after their meeting in South Korea three weeks earlier, which Trump previously called “highly successful.”

Chinese state media outlet Xinhua reported that Xi stressed the importance of Taiwan’s return to China as a central element of the post-war international order. Xi said that overall relations between China and the United States have remained “generally stable” and have improved since their recent meeting.

Xi urged both countries to “safeguard the outcomes of World War II,” maintain diplomatic momentum, and continue moving in the “right direction.” He also called for deeper cooperation and efforts to narrow differences, arguing that this would help achieve “more positive progress” in bilateral ties.

Trump also highlighted agricultural cooperation, saying the two sides had reached an important agreement that would benefit American farmers. He added that the relationship between Washington and Beijing remains “extremely strong.”

Both leaders agreed to future state visits. Trump accepted Xi’s invitation to visit Beijing in April 2026, while Xi will make a return visit to the United States later in the year. Trump emphasized that the two sides committed to maintaining regular communication going forward.
