The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed a sweeping tax and spending bill on Wednesday, sending it to President Donald Trump for final approval.
According to the White House, Trump is scheduled to sign the “Big Beautiful Bill” on July 4th at 5 PM ET.
The legislation includes a broad package of tax cuts, expanded deductions for families and seniors, and eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay.
The bill passed the House by a close 218–214 vote, largely along party lines, with only two Republicans voting against it. It had already cleared the Senate earlier in the week.
The White House celebrated the outcome on social media platform X, posting:
“VICTORY: The One Big Beautiful Bill Passes U.S. Congress, Heads to President Trump’s Desk.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised the bill, calling it “the strongest legislation for American workers and families,” adding that it would “unleash the full potential of the U.S. economy” and “stop the largest tax increase in history.”
In addition to tax provisions, the bill allocates funding to boost U.S. manufacturing, enhance national security, and tighten oversight on federal programs to cut down on fraud and waste.
House Speaker Mike Johnson highlighted the bill’s scope, stating on X:
“The House has passed generational legislation that permanently lowers taxes for families and job creators, secures the border, unleashes American energy dominance… reduces spending more than any other bill ever has, and makes government more efficient.”
