Trump Slams Trade Court Ruling, Looks to Supreme Court for Reversal
U.S. President Donald Trump harshly criticized a recent trade court decision that sought to halt his tariff agenda, expressing confidence on Thursday that the Supreme Court will ultimately overturn the ruling.
In a lengthy and impassioned post on Truth Social, Trump condemned the U.S. Court of International Trade’s decision and the judges behind it, while praising the Court of Appeals for temporarily halting the enforcement of the ruling.
“The decision by the Court of International Trade is completely wrong and politically motivated! I’m hopeful the Supreme Court will overturn this terrible and dangerous ruling swiftly and decisively,” Trump wrote.
The trade court ruled on Wednesday that Trump had exceeded his executive powers in implementing broad tariffs and gave his administration 10 days to respond. Trump responded by filing an appeal almost immediately, and the appeals court has since put the lower court’s ruling on hold while it considers the case.
A hearing is set for June 5, though many expect the case will ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court.
In his latest remarks, Trump lashed out at the judges who opposed his tariffs, calling them “backroom hustlers”, and doubled down on his belief in the effectiveness of his trade measures.
He also repeated his claim that the tariffs would generate “trillions of dollars” in revenue for the U.S. economy.
The White House indicated earlier on Thursday that even if the administration loses the legal battle, it could pursue Trump’s tariff agenda through alternative channels.
Trump first unveiled his aggressive tariff plan in April, targeting key U.S. trade partners—especially those with significant trade surpluses. Shortly thereafter, he announced a 90-day delay on most tariffs, framing them as a tactic to bring countries to the negotiating table. That exemption period is due to expire in early July.
