U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed openness to visiting China for direct discussions with President Xi Jinping on matters related to foreign policy and the economy.
During an interview broadcast Friday on Fox News’s Special Report with Bret Baier, Trump confirmed he would consider making such a diplomatic trip.
This announcement follows a temporary softening of trade tensions between the U.S. and China.
On May 12, both countries agreed to a 90-day suspension of tariff increases: the U.S. reduced tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China cut its tariffs on American goods from 125% to 10%.
However, despite the pause, deeper trade disputes remain unresolved, and tensions continue.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in televised interviews on Sunday that Trump still intends to impose tariffs on trading partners that do not engage in “good faith” negotiations.
