Brussels is preparing to launch a new antitrust investigation into Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META). The probe will focus on how the company rolled out artificial intelligence features inside WhatsApp, the Financial Times reported on Thursday.
According to the report, the European Commission plans to examine how Meta integrated its Meta AI system into the messaging platform earlier this year. The newspaper cited two officials familiar with the matter.
The announcement of the investigation could come within days, although the exact timing may still change.
If confirmed, the probe would add to Meta’s growing list of regulatory challenges in Europe. The company has already faced increased scrutiny over its business practices across several of its major apps.
