U.S.-China Business Council Delegation to Visit China This Week
(Reuters) – A high-level delegation from the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC) is scheduled to visit China this week, according to a report from the South China Morning Post (SCMP), citing two sources familiar with the matter.
FedEx CEO to Lead Delegation
The group will be led by FedEx CEO Rajesh Subramaniam, who currently chairs the USCBC board. The delegation is also expected to include executives from Boeing (NYSE: BA) and USCBC President Sean Stein, according to the report.
Reuters was not able to independently verify the information at the time of publication.
Purpose of the Visit: Business Dialogue
The SCMP report suggests that the U.S. delegation is likely to meet with senior Chinese officials during the visit. One source noted that the meetings may aim to revive business discussions between the two countries.
The report also mentioned that both sides are working toward organizing a potential visit by the U.S. president to China later this year.
The U.S.-China Business Council has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Visit Aligns with Trade Talks in Sweden
This delegation visit comes as U.S.-China trade negotiations continue in Sweden, where China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng is holding meetings with U.S. officials from July 27 to July 30 for a new round of economic and trade discussions.
China is under pressure to reach a lasting trade deal with the White House before the August 12 deadline, or it may face higher U.S. tariffs.
