The U.S. Supreme Court announced on Thursday that it will hear oral arguments on November 5 regarding the legality of Donald Trump’s global tariffs. The case marks a major test of one of the Republican president’s most significant uses of executive power, central to his economic and trade agenda.

Earlier this month, the justices confirmed they would review the case after a lower court ruled that Trump had exceeded his authority by imposing many of the tariffs under a federal law intended for emergencies.

The Supreme Court, which begins its new nine-month term on October 6, also agreed to consider a separate challenge to Trump’s tariffs. That case was brought by Learning Resources, a family-owned toy company disputing the impact of the trade measures.
