U.S. President Donald Trump warned on Monday that there could be consequences if Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy fail to meet for talks.
“Putin and Zelenskiy should meet,” Trump said, though he admitted uncertainty over whether such a meeting will take place. “Don’t know that they’ll meet,” he added.
The president suggested he might personally attend any potential meeting between the two leaders, saying he “may be there for Putin-Zelenskiy, may not.”
Trump also indicated he would allow time for developments before stepping in. “We’ll see what happens over a week or two—at that point I’ll step in,” he said, leaving open the possibility of U.S. involvement in brokering further negotiations.
