President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he would soon announce his decision on who will lead the Federal Reserve, emphasizing that an ideal candidate would support cutting interest rates.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “It’s coming out very soon.”
When asked specifically about Kevin Warsh, a former Federal Reserve governor, Trump remarked that Warsh is “very highly thought of,” fueling speculation that he may be the leading contender for the position.
Earlier in the day, Trump once again called for the Fed to slash interest rates by a full percentage point, reiterating his belief that current Chair Jerome Powell has been too slow to act.
Trump has frequently criticized Powell for not cutting rates more aggressively. The two recently met in person, during which Trump reportedly told Powell he was making a “mistake” by maintaining higher borrowing costs.
