Trump Administration Asks Supreme Court to Extend $4B Food Aid Freeze

The Trump administration has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to keep in place the existing hold on $4 billion in food aid, signaling an ongoing legal effort to delay or reduce assistance for millions of low-income American families.

In a filing submitted to the nation’s highest court, the administration requested an extension of the temporary stay on a lower court’s decision that would have required full funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The current pause—originally granted by Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson—is set to expire on Tuesday night.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has so far pledged only partial funding for SNAP, a program that supports roughly 42 million people nationwide. The administration’s latest move could determine whether full benefits resume or remain restricted as the legal battle continues.
