Trump Says Zelensky Could End War With Russia by Accepting Moscow’s Terms

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could end the Russia-Ukraine war “almost immediately” if Kyiv agrees to Moscow’s demands.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“President Zelensky of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. Remember how it started. Obama gave away Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and there will be no NATO membership for Ukraine.”

Key Meetings Scheduled in Washington

Trump’s comments came ahead of his planned meeting with Zelensky at the White House on Monday. The two leaders will meet at 13:00 ET (17:00 GMT). Later, at 15:00 ET, Trump will hold a multilateral session with European heads of state to further discuss possible steps toward ending the conflict.

Trump’s Talks With Putin

Last Friday, Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. He described the discussions as positive but vague, noting progress toward a long-term peace agreement rather than a temporary ceasefire.

Reports suggested that a potential peace deal could involve Ukraine ceding parts of its eastern regions, including Donetsk and Luhansk, to Russia. In exchange, Russia might withdraw from parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south.

Ukraine’s Position

Ukraine has repeatedly rejected any proposal to cede territory to Russia. Zelensky has also stressed that Ukraine must be directly involved in any ceasefire or peace talks.

At the same time, Zelensky welcomed potential security guarantees from the U.S. if a peace deal is eventually reached.

Previous Trump-Zelensky Meeting

The two leaders last met at the White House in February 2025. That meeting ended contentiously, with little progress toward resolving the war. Trump at the time labeled Zelensky a “dictator” and suggested Ukraine bore responsibility for the conflict, which has raged since Russia’s invasion in early 2022.
