Trump Says U.S. Will Be Involved in Choosing Iran’s Next Leader
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States intends to play a role in selecting Iran’s next leader, according to comments made during a telephone interview with Reuters.
Trump noted that discussions about potential leadership changes in Iran are still in the early stages. However, he indicated that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is unlikely to emerge as the country’s next leader.
The U.S. president emphasized that Washington wants to participate in the process of determining who will guide Iran in the future.
According to Trump, the goal is to help ensure that Iran is led by someone capable of providing stability and improving conditions for the country and its citizens.
He also suggested that the selection of a new leader should lead to a long-term solution, avoiding the need for repeated political intervention over time.
