Trump Says Israel Agrees to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire Terms, Urges Hamas to Accept
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the key terms for a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza, and called on the Palestinian militant group to accept the proposal.
Trump said a “long and productive meeting” had taken place with Israeli officials, during which they agreed to the conditions necessary to finalize the temporary truce.
“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas accepts this deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”
The president’s remarks come in the wake of a recently brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran, following a dramatic escalation that reportedly included U.S.-backed strikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities. That truce ended 12 days of conflict and remained in effect as of Tuesday evening.
Despite ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hamas, with Israel continuing its military operations in Gaza, Trump signaled renewed optimism for a deal. A previous attempt at a ceasefire between the two sides had collapsed earlier this year, despite Trump’s pressure campaign on Hamas, which included ultimatums to release hostages in exchange for humanitarian aid.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump had said he hoped a new Israel-Hamas truce could be reached by next week.
