Trump Confirms Israel-Iran Ceasefire Now in Effect, Hails End to Hostilities

U.S. President Donald Trump announced early Tuesday that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran had officially taken effect, potentially bringing an end to the latest round of hostilities between the two longtime rivals in the Middle East.

THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, about six to seven hours after initially revealing the agreement.

Despite the deal, Iran continued launching missile strikes on Israeli targets until shortly before the truce deadline, with at least six waves of attacks reported and some casualties confirmed.

However, Iranian state media acknowledged the ceasefire agreement, and Israel appeared to accept the terms as well. According to NBC News, Trump expects the ceasefire to “last forever.

Ceasefire Structure and Timeline

As outlined by Trump, the truce follows a 24-hour phased structure:

  • Iran initiates a 12-hour ceasefire
  • At the 12th hour, Israel joins the truce
  • After 24 hours, there will be an “Official END” to the conflict

During each phase, Trump emphasized that the opposing side must remain “PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”

Ceasefire Follows Major U.S. Strikes

The ceasefire comes just days after the U.S. bombed three of Iran’s nuclear facilities, deploying bunker-buster bombs to destroy underground enrichment sites. Trump had claimed the strikes “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

In his social media statement, Trump praised both countries for showing “the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” to step back from the brink, stating the war “could have lasted for years and devastated the entire Middle East.”

Trump also revealed that both Iran and Israel had approached him independently to broker the ceasefire.

Market Reaction

The ceasefire announcement had an immediate impact on financial markets:

  • Oil prices fell Monday evening
  • U.S. stock index futures rose between 0.5% and 0.8%, signaling renewed investor optimism

Israel’s Position

Ahead of the truce, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was “very, very close” to achieving its objectives in Iran, particularly in crippling Tehran’s nuclear ambitions—a goal likely accelerated by the recent U.S. strikes.
