A group of Democratic lawmakers from Texas has urged Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) to delay its planned robotaxi launch in Austin until September, when new autonomous vehicle legislation is set to take effect.
In a letter sent Wednesday, the Austin-area legislators asked the company to hold off on the event, which CEO Elon Musk had “tentatively” planned for this Sunday.
The lawmakers argued that postponing the launch would serve “the best interest of public safety” and help strengthen public confidence in Tesla’s autonomous vehicle operations.
