Tether AI’s crypto payment functionality will be powered through a new wallet development kit, allowing self-custodial wallets for Bitcoin and Tether’s USDt.
Tether’s upcoming artificial intelligence platform, dubbed Tether AI, will support payments in top cryptocurrencies like USDt and Bitcoin, according to the company.
CEO Paolo Ardoino teased the platform’s arrival on X (formerly Twitter) on May 5, describing Tether AI as offering “personal infinite intelligence.”
Ardoino confirmed that Tether AI will integrate Bitcoin and USDT payments, enabling direct transactions across a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) network.
The project follows Tether’s December 2024 announcement of an AI tool website, aiming for a full launch by the end of Q1 2025.
Built for Any Device, Anywhere
Ardoino stressed that Tether AI will not rely on API keys or centralized servers. Instead, it will offer a completely open-source AI framework operating on a “resilient peer-to-peer network,” and will be “fully modular and composable.”
He added that Tether AI is designed to function and evolve across all types of hardware and devices.
Wallet Development Kit Powers P2P Payments
Tether AI’s peer-to-peer payment system will leverage the company’s open-source wallet development kit (WDK), first introduced in November 2024.
This toolkit enables developers to build wallet apps for mobile, desktop, and web platforms, allowing users to self-custody their USDt and Bitcoin without third-party intermediaries.
Unlike custodial services, self-custodial wallets give users full control of their crypto assets, offering more autonomy in transactions.
AI Becomes a Core Focus for Tether
Tether AI is part of a broader push into artificial intelligence. In April 2024, Tether reorganized to launch new business units beyond stablecoin operations, including Tether Data, focused on AI and P2P technologies.
Earlier in 2024, Ardoino revealed that the AI division was developing apps like AI Translate, AI Voice Assistant, and AI Bitcoin Wallet Assistant.
Ardoino said Tether AI’s mission is to lay the “ideal tech foundation” for realizing the vision of AI imagined by Isaac Asimov, the famed sci-fi author behind I, Robot and The Robot Series.
“AI will become woven into the very fabric of reality over the coming decades,” Ardoino noted in another X post, written in Italian.
